I managed to play Pilotwings at Target for about 10 minutes in one session, and came back for another 6 minute session. The best thing about the system is the new analogue stick thingy, certainly an improvement over the lack of such device on the DS. I had to have the 3D slider on the lower quarter percentage to even see the 3D effects at all, otherwise I just couldn't focus on the screen. I knew to expect the window of seeing the 3D was small, but dang, moving my head at all and my eyes went buggy. After my first session was over, I couldn't focus really at all for about 30 seconds, and I had a case of motion sickness that lasted for about 30 minutes, after 10 minutes of gameplay. At first, I thought it was because I tried to play the game at its maximum setting for a bit, but when I came back to Target few hours later (to get some soda), the second session I kept it on low settings, my eyes didn't boggle much at all during gamplay, yet I still suffered from focusing problems and motion sickness after playing it. Safe to say, I will not being playing 3D games very often in the future.
As for Pilotwings itself? Mildly fun, but certainly seems the be extremely shallow. Certainly not the franchise's big rise from the ashes like I was hoping for.
Keep in mind, I am slightly photosensitive, and my experience with 3D may not be the same as your experience. I do not want to discourage people from trying it for themselves, because everybody sees 3D sceens differently. I'm just unlucky that I can't view the 3DS' screen without getting motion sickness. |

Managed to get Rock Band 3 as an early Christmas present this past week. Been playing that for the most part, although it clear that the developers didn't properly bugtest the Wii port at all before rushing it out the door.
Got the Metroid Other M review up, in case you didn't notice it at all. Its only two months late, due to issues in Real Life, but that is mostly resolved at the moment.
Going through Other M gave me the desire to replay the older Metroid games, and currently I'm about 3/4 done with the original 1986 NES Metroid. I plan on getting a review for that done hopefully within the week.
Also, in something that I've been planning since before Mario's big 25th anniversary, its a big task, but I plan on doing a retrospective/review of the entire Mario franchise, slowly one game at time, starting with the arcade Donkey Kong. The first review should come out around the same time as the Metroid one.

I'm currently suffering through Metroid Other M in order to write a full review on it this week. I'll see if I can actually keep interested enough in the game to actually finish it, because, really, the game is awful.
The only reason this game got good reviews in the first place is because it has "Metroid" on the name. |
